Germination of tubers / Easy maintenance / Requires water
There are essentially 3 methods for planting sweet potatoes: from the seed, from the stem of the adult plant and from the germination of the tuber itself. What I am going to describe here is my experience with one of these methods, in fact it was a real success, I was very happy and admired when we harvest 7 to 9 tubers per sprout.
In the first approach, I tried the technique that seemed more viable and easier to put into practice. For this I bought sweet potato sprouts in the garden and planted them between May and June.
In order to produce sprouts through the germination of the tuber itself, we started this method here at home, so I don't need to obtain them in a vegetable garden. Below I describe in detail the technique I am using. I have images of the initial phase available, as well as of the sprouts obtained after the potatoes germinate.
GROWING SWEET POTATOES THROUGH THE GERMINATION OF THE OWN TUBERCLE
1. Obtain a healthy and firm sweet potato, preferably organic or from a local producer, in order to prevent the previous use of products that prevent sprouts.
2. Place the whole or broken sweet potato in a jar with water, so that it covers only about half of the sweet potato.
3. Place in a location with direct sunlight, such as on a sunny window sill, and change the water frequently.
4. When the sprouts reach 4 to 5 cm in length, it is time to pluck them from the sweet potato. More sprouts will appear.
5. Place the sprouts in a bottle of water, wait for them to grow roots and reach 25 cm in height, it is then time to plant.
6. Sweet potatoes like a relatively warm climate, and the soil should be warmer when planting, so between May and June.
This was the first year that we grew sweet potatoes through tubers and I can say that the result was very similar when compared to the results of the shoots obtained in the garden.

COMO CULTIVAR BATATA DOCE
(Germinação dos tubérculos / Fácil manutenção / Requer água)
Essencialmente existem 3 métodos para plantar batata doce: a partir da semente, a partir da rama da planta adulta e a partir da germinação do próprio tubérculo. O que vou descrever aqui é a minha experiência com um desses métodos, na verdade foi um verdadeiro sucesso, fiquei muito contente e admirada quando colhemos 7 a 9 tubérculos por rebento.
Na primeira abordagem experimentei a técnica que me pareceu mais viável e fácil de colocar em prática. Para tal comprei rebentos de batata doce no horto e plantei-os entre maio e junho.
De modo a produzir rebentos através da germinação do próprio tubérculo, iniciamos este método aqui em casa, assim não preciso de os obter num horto. Em baixo descrevo em detalhe a técnica que estou a usar. Tenho disponíveis imagens da fase inicial, assim como dos rebentos obtidos após as batatas germinarem.
CULTIVAR BATATA DOCE ATRAVÉS DA GERMINAÇÃO DO PRÓPRIO TUBÉRCULO
1. Obter uma batata-doce saudável e firme, de preferência biológica ou de um produtor local, de modo a prevenir o uso anterior de produtos que impedem o surgimento de rebentos.
2. Colocar a batata doce inteira ou partida a meio num frasco com água, de modo a cobrir apenas cerca de metade da batata doce.
3. Colocar num local com luz do sol direta, como num parapeito de uma janela ensolarada, e trocar a água com frequência.
4. Quando os rebentos atingirem os 4 a 5 cm de comprimento, é altura de os arrancar da batata-doce. Mais rebentos irão surgir.
5. Colocar os rebentos num frasco com água, esperar que ganhem raízes e atinjam os 25 cm de altura, é então altura de plantar.
6. A batata doce gosta de um clima relativamente quente, e convém o solo já estar mais quente na altura de plantar, por isso entre maio e junho.
Esta foi o primeiro ano em que cultivamos batata doce através de tubérculos e posso dizer que o resultado foi muito similar quando comparado com os resultados dos rebentos obtidos no horto.
